Gibson Gate Approach altered
Come Feb. 17, drivers entering Kirtland through the Gibson Gate will travel a different path. People will enter and exit on a remade, re-directed approach from the intersection of Gibson and Louisiana Boulevards. The new entry and exit will conduct traffic south of the old intersection on Louisiana, passing the Kirtland Federal Credit Union branch. Kirtland provides military honors at Maj. Gen. Nye laid to rest
The Kirtland Honor Guard conducted military funeral honors as retired Maj. Gen. Francis W. Nye was laid to rest Jan. 21, 2019, at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M.. Nye, who retired from active duty after a distinguished Air Force career in 1972, died Jan. 13 in Albuquerque at the age of 100. As commander of Sandia Base in 1971, he oversaw the consolidation of three installations into what is today Kirtland Air Force Base. He served with distinction in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars and on the Air Staff at the Pentagon. In addition to the military honors, 377th Air Base Wing Vice Commander Col. Christopher King presented Nye's daughter, Janet Olsen, with an American Flag on hehalf of a grateful nation. (U.S. Air Force photos by Jim Fisher)
