History Office Mission

To capture, preserve and vitalize the History and Heritage of the 377th Air Base Wing. The wing historian is responsible for researching and writing the wing’s annual Command History Report, advising the wing commander on issues of historical importance, conducting oral history interviews, publishing special studies, providing history and heritage briefings, leading staff rides and maintaining the wing’s archive,  reference library and heritage pamphlet.

Wing Archive

The 377 ABW maintains numerous important records. These primarily include:

  • Official Periodic History Reports for the 377 ABW and its heritage units: the 377th Combat Support Group, 377th Air Base Wing and 377th Combat Support Wing. These reports cover wing operations from 1966 to the Present.
  • : Only Unclassified reports are available to the public, any FOUO or CUI reports will require a formal FOIA request.
  • Official Periodic History Reports for the 1606 Air Base Wing, which served as the host unit for Kirtland AFB from 1977 to 1990.
  • : Only Unclassified reports are available to the public, any FOUO or CUI reports will require a formal FOIA request.
  • Historic Kirtland AFB Newspapers – this collection ranges from the 1940s to the early 2000s.

Please Note: Outside of organizational histories and historic newspapers, the 377 ABW archive also contains a few other minor records collections—for further information on these collections please contact the wing historian.

Please note that the purview of the wing history office is that of the 377 ABW and does not include the many other organizations that call Kirtland AFB home. Additionally, while the wing archive contains some records related to the history of the base, it should be noted that the 377 ABW has only been the host unit of Kirtland AFB since 1993.

Veterans' Record Information

For any and all inquiries related to veterans’ records it should be noted that the wing history office only maintains organizational records and can only offer information regarding historic 377 ABW and Kirtland AFB units. As such, unless the veteran in question was a commanding officer of a unit at the wing or on the base then no personnel records of them will be on file.
