Maj. Gen. Nye laid to rest with military honors

The Kirtland Honor Guard conducted military funeral honors as retired Maj. Gen. Francis W. Nye was laid to rest Jan. 21, 2019, at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M.. Nye, who retired from active duty after a distinguished Air Force career in 1972, died Jan. 13 in Albuquerque at the age of 100. As commander of Sandia Base in 1971, he oversaw the consolidation of three installations into what is today Kirtland Air Force Base. He served with distinction in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars and on the Air Staff at the Pentagon. In addition to the military honors, 377th Air Base Wing Vice Commander Col. Christopher King presented Nye's daughter, Janet Olsen, with an American Flag on hehalf of a grateful nation. (U.S. Air Force photo by Jim Fisher)
