Q: What is happening to the Gibson Child Development Center (CDC)? A: The Gibson Child Development Center (CDC) will undergo significant renovations starting in October 2024. To ensure the safety and well-being of the children and staff, the center will temporarily close during the renovation period.
Q: How does this affect my child at Maxwell? A: Children at Maxwell will be staying in their current rooms with staff that they know. No children at Maxwell were moved rooms.
Q: Will the Maxwell CDC hours be extended? A: At this time the hours will not be extended.
Q: How long will the renovations last? A: The renovations are scheduled to last for a year, but please note that all dates are tentative and subject to change.
Q: Where will the children be moved during the renovation period? A: Families classified as priorities 1A – 1B.5 will transition to Maxwell CDC and School Age Care at the Youth Center. Families classified as priorities 1C.1 and below will be supplanted with an effective end date of 27 Nov 24.
Q: When will the children be moved to Maxwell CDC? A: The first movement of children to Maxwell CDC will take place on Oct 24, consisting of 27 children: 8 infants, 4 pretoddlers, 12 toddlers, and 3 preschoolers. The second movement will take place on Nov. 4, with weekly movements thereafter. The last day for all children at Gibson will be on 27 Nov.
Q: What resources are available for families during this transition? A: Families can find resources from the New Mexico Early Childhood Education & Care Department Child Care Services Bureau Child Care Assistance Program. This program assists families with the cost of childcare and is a key resource in locating childcare in and around Albuquerque and steps to choosing quality child care Child Care Assistance | Early Childhood Education & Care Department (nmececd.org)
Q: Are there any income guidelines for the childcare assistance program? A: Families may enter the program at or below 400% FPL and remain eligible until they reach 425% FPL.
Q: What is the process for the transition of children to Maxwell CDC? A: Parents will receive an advance notice of their child’s transition date. Pertinent information such as allergies, dietary needs, and medications will be automatically transferred. Parents are required to move their child’s personal items. Withdrawals between now and Feb 25 will not require a two-weeks notice.
Q: What happens to families classified as priorities 1C.1 and below? A: Families classified as priorities 1C.1 and below will be supplanted with an effective end date of 27 Nov 24. Supplanting notices will be issued on 10 & 11 Oct 24. The last day for supplanted families will be on 27 Nov 24. Families are encouraged to rejoin the MCC waitlist to utilize MCC programs and Childcare Aware. A supplanting list will be available after the town hall on Oct. 9. Q: What if my priority changes before the 45 days? A: If you’re priority would change to a 1B.5 or above, your child would no longer be supplanted.
Q: Are there any off-base centers that accept childcare assistance? A: Many off-base centers accept childcare assistance; verify with the center. Many off-base centers have similar operating days/hours. There is currently no parent copay (free childcare) for those that are eligible for childcare assistance through the state of New Mexico. Q: What about the traffic at the gate? A: Security Forces is aware that the Maxwell CDC is moving towards operating at full capacity by December.
Q: If my child receives services at Gibson, will the services be able to continue at Maxwell? A: Absolutely! Just work with the servicing agency to have the location the provider goes to moved to Maxwell.
Q: What about parking? A: There is a very large parking lot on the other side of Maxwell CDC that will be utilized for overflow of staff.
