Letter to the commander: Wingman attitude brings gratitude Published July 25, 2007 By Barbara Johnson civilian KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- I'd like to thank the following people for being there for me and my grandchild during a horrible experience. On July 10, approximately 7:55 a.m., I got out of my car to take my granddaughter (17 months old) to swimming lessons. Needless to say, I locked the keys in my car with her still in it. Angela Sloltenberg was taking her children to swim lessons and she stopped to see what she could do. She loaned me her cell phone to make necessary calls; a gentleman named Rico stopped what he was doing and helped me throughout this whole nightmare. The lifeguard who was sitting behind the desk called the law enforcement desk and Tech. Sgt. Sanders and Staff Sgt Gonzalez responded quickly to the call. The paramedics also showed up. Finally my son came with spare keys. All of these people deserve kudos in my book. It makes me proud of the whole Kirtland community. When someone is in trouble they don't think twice about helping out. Everyone was very concerned and so kind. Again, thanks to all of you!
