FAQ's - What can I bring?

 

Frequently Asked Questions

What time do gates open?

Gates will be under normal operation hours with the exception of the gates available for Air Show entry. This information will be released closer to the date once parking and shuttle plans have been confirmed.

When does the show begin?

The schedule of events will be released closer to the show date. Check back in for more info!

Who is participating?

Aerial Demonstrations include: the U.S. Army Golden Knights, F-16 Viper Demonstration Team from Shaw Air Force Base, USAF Academy Glider Demo Team, 58th Special Operations Wing Capabilities Demo (MC-130, AC-130, HC-130, HH-60, Huey, and CV-22), and more!

Will smoking be allowed?

NO SMOKING is allowed at the Air Show in any location—this is prohibited by regulation on all flight lines across the Air Force. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Can I bring a chair, blanket and or umbrella?

Chairs, blankets, and small inspectable personal comfort items will be permitted. Small umbrellas are fine to bring (the small ones that fit in a purse), but large golf umbrellas or shade umbrellas are banned as they may block the view of spectators behind you

Can I bring my own shade canopy?

No, due to security measures and possible wind gusts large items including canopies, large duffels, locked suitcases etc. will not be allowed onto the base.

I have small children. Can I bring a stroller, diaper bag, or change of clothes?

Stroller and diaper bags are authorized and will be hand-searched at the security checkpoint. All other bags must be clear or smaller than one cubic foot (12”x12”). Also please consider bringing hearing protection for small children.

Can I bring food?

Small snacks are fine as long as they are not in glass containers. In addition, no ice chests or coolers (except small coolers for medical supplies or infant formula purposes,) nor bags larger than a small purse, fanny pack, or backpack will be allowed. All items are subject to approval by security personnel and are hand-searched at security checkpoint.

Is tailgating allowed?

No.

Will it be necessary to have hearing protection?

Due to the nature of the event, it is highly encouraged you bring hearing protection – especially for children. There will be a number of aircraft taking off, landing, and performing, which will be extremely loud.

Transportation & Parking FAQ's

Are there buses/shuttles to the air show?

There will be dedicated parking areas as well as buses and shuttles operation on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. Parking details and shuttle schedules will be updated as we get closer to the event. 

Will there be parking on base?

Parking details, directions, and maps will be released as we get closer to the event. Be sure to check back!

Can I get a ride to the event?

Ridesharing services, including Uber and Lyft, will take riders directly to the Air Show event site. People can also be picked up in the same area when they are ready to depart. Check back in for more ride sharing details!

Do you have a handicap shuttle on the flight line?

Yes, we will have dedicated golf carts for handicap transportation to and from the base parking locations.

Is handicapped parking available? If so, where will they be directed for parking?

Yes, more information will be provided closer to the event.

Amenities & Services

Will restroom facilities be easily accessible?

Yes. Portable restrooms will be located throughout the Air Show grounds.

Can I take pictures or get autographs?

Yes. Many of the performers make themselves available for autographs and pictures during the show.

Will there be shade?

There are limited areas of shade available throughout the flight line. You can take a walk through one of our larger static displays to get a break from the sun, as well as the STEM area. Shade tents will also be available.

What happens if it rains?

In the event of rain, some flying demonstrations may be delayed. However, unless the weather poses a serious threat to the safety of the visitors and participants, the show will proceed as scheduled with some modifications. In the event of an Air Show cancellation, announcements will be coordinated with local news agencies as well as Kirtland Public Affairs pushing through the app and social media channels as information becomes available.

What type of medical services will be available?

First aid only will be provided such as treatment for mild dehydration, treatment for minor cuts and bruises, and application of emergency medications (ex. Epi-pens). Medical personnel will stabilize and coordinate transportation to higher level care for all other injuries/illnesses as determined by a medical professional.

What children’s activities are available?

There will be a free kid’s zone that features bouncy castles and activities. There will also be a STEM area.

Admission & Security FAQ's

Do I need a military ID?

No, this event is open to the public on Saturday May 31, and Sunday June 1. 

I’m not a U.S. citizen but would like to come. Do I need any special form of identification?

If individuals come on the buses, we are not checking identification, therefore they will not need identification

Will we be security screened before we enter base? Before we get on the shuttle?

Yes REMEMBER, all items/persons will be checked before boarding buses to the event. All items will be subject to search once you are on base. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding. Please see the list of prohibited and allowed items. Anyone found with prohibited items prior to bus loading, will be asked to return the items to their vehicle. Refusal will result in denial of boarding.

What can we expect at the security checkpoint?

People and personal items are subject to searches. For the security of all attending, metal detectors and K-9 units will assist with security screening. ALL ITEMS will be searched BEFORE boarding the shuttle buses to the Air Show. All items will be subject to search at a second screening location at the flight line entrance. Anyone found with prohibited items at the installation screening points, will be directed to deposit their item in the available amnesty boxes and will not receive those items back. Refusal to deposit items will result in immediate removal from the installation.

Can I leave and re-enter the Air Fiesta?

Yes. You may leave and re-enter as many times as needed. However, anyone re-entering will have to go through the shuttle bus line and security checkpoints again.

What happens once I’m inside and I remember I have a prohibited item?

All items/persons will be searched before boarding the busses to the event. All items will be subject to search once you are on base. After bus drop-off, there will be additional screening prior to entering the event area. People found having prohibited items at the event screening checkpoints will be asked to deposit them in amnesty locations and will be escorted off the installation in the event they refuse to comply.
