Commander's Corner: 377th Air Base Wing welcomes new executive director Published Aug. 15, 2007 By Col. Robert E. Suminsby Jr. 377th Air Base Wing commander KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- On Aug. 6, one of Team Kirtland's very own stepped into a new role and made the transition from military life to serving the Air Force as a civilian. I'd like to take a few moments to introduce you to our new 377th Air Base Wing Executive Director Thomas Berardinelli. Q: What made you make that leap from military life into the civilian world and continue to serve here? A: I had reached a point in my career where I would be given the opportunity to probably serve in only one more assignment. It was decision time for me and my family, so both professionally and personally we decided the timing was right and it was a positive step for all of us. I've been stationed at Kirtland AFB three times and we love Albuquerque -- this is home for us. When I saw the executive director position advertised, I thought my skills and abilities would be a perfect match to the position requirements and I was thrilled at the idea that I could continue to serve the Air Force. Q: What do you believe you bring to the table in serving as the executive director? A: My experience and ability to work with our superb people are probably my greatest strength. I have 27 years of experience serving in the Air Force with the last 11 years of my career spent in command positions. I have a great love for the Air Force and the Airmen that comprise it, including all ranks and civilians -- everyone is a part of the team. Q: In serving as the wing executive director, what are your main priorities? A: First and foremost, to support and execute Colonel Suminsby's priorities. My agenda will be set by this wing's commander and any future commander I may work for. My responsibilities include serving as senior adviser on civilian personnel matters and supervising day-to-day operations of the wing staff. I'll provide long-term continuity, continue to nurture labor relations and look for opportunities to improve our already good relationship with the Albuquerque and New Mexico communities. Q: What do you look forward to most in serving as the executive director? A: I am very much looking forward to serving and working with the local community. Most of all, I look forward to serving the outstanding men and women of Team Kirtland. Mr. Berardinelli comes to us after serving as the Air Force Inspection Agency commander for the last two years. The wing staff welcomes him into his new position and looks forward to working with him and serving Team Kirtland.
