Operation Sock Drop made its debut at Kirtland Air Force Base, combining entertainment with generosity. The event offered attendees a free movie in exchange for donating brand-new socks, which could also be playfully tossed at others during the screening.

“This is the first year that we’ve done this here at the 377th Air Base Wing,” said Chief Master Sgt. Travis Chadick, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center command chief master sergeant. “Why are we doing this? Because one, it’s fun. I mean, throwing a sock at somebody else brings out the inner child in you.”

All socks collected will be donated to the Salvation Army and distributed through its three family stores in the greater Albuquerque area.

The event drew a lively crowd eager to embrace the holiday spirit. Participants enjoyed the unique opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause while celebrating the season in a lighthearted way.

“We’re just giving a free movie, giving away socks, and just trying to make the world a better place, man,” added Chadick. “Easy stuff. Happy holidays.”

The event was deemed a resounding success, with Team Kirtland collecting an impressive total of over 280 pairs of socks to benefit those in need.
