VA hospital gets new director Published Dec. 1, 2006 By William Armstrong Department of Veterans Affairs ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- George Marnell has been named director of the New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Albuquerque. Mr. Marnell arrived at NMVAHCS on Nov. 1, following the departure of Nathan Geraths, interim director.Mr. Marnell comes to NMVAHCS from Roseburg, Ore., where he served as director of the VA Medical Center since 1999. Mr. Marnell was director of the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center, in Walla Walla, Wash., from 1994 to 1999. From 1989 to 1994, Mr. Marnell served as the associate director and chief operating officer of the VA Medical Center in Denver, Colo. He was also acting director of the Denver facility from June 1993 to October 1993. Prior to his Denver appointment, Mr. Marnell served as associate director at VAMC Phoenix, Ariz., from 1986 to 1989, and as associate director at VAMC Amarillo, Texas, from 1985 to 1986.Mr. Marnell earned a master's degree in healthcare administration from Arizona State University, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Northern Arizona University. He is a diplomat of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
