MPF receives upgrades for next generation CAC Published Dec. 26, 2007 KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- In preparation for the "next generation common access card," the Kirtland Military Personnel Flight recently underwent a series of upgrades to ready CAC issue stations. In the past, the logical and physical access control functions of the card were separate issues. These controls will combine into what will be known as the personal identification verification compliant cards. The new cards will meet the guidelines established by the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12. These cards contain advance technology which will enhance the security of federally controlled facilities and computer systems and ensure a safer work environment for all service members, federal employees and contractors. With the system upgrades come changes in the verification process. The biggest change for customers will be the requirement to present two valid forms of identification with at least one ID containing a photo. Examples of acceptable forms of photo IDs are U.S. military ID cards, driver's license or ID card issued by a state or outlying possession of the United States or a U.S. passport. Customer service representatives cannot accept identification that has expired. Additional forms of identification include U.S. Social Security cards, voter's registration card, original or certified copy of a birth certificate issued by a state, county, municipal authority or outlying possession of the U.S. bearing an official seal, certification of birth abroad issued by the Department of State and U.S. citizen ID card. As a means of increased card security, the DEERs site is required to scan the two forms of identification into the system before issuing a new ID card. This requirement applies to all individuals seeking to have any military ID card issued such as CACs, retiree or dependent IDs. Another enhancement to the system will be 100 percent implementation of the contractor verification system. In order for a contractor to have a CAC issued, the individual's sponsorship must be confirmed in CVS. If the individual's information has not been verified in CVS, an ID card can not be issued. Contractors should check with their CVS representative, known as trusted agents, to ensure their information was updated in CVS before heading to the MPF for a CAC. This policy applies to all first-time CACs, reissued CACs and those that are issued to replace a lost or stolen card. Cards issued to civil service employees must be verified in DEERS by the servicing civilian personnel office before a CAC can be issued. Individuals in this category should check with their servicing CPO before visiting the MPF Customer Service section. These changes, along with the installation of new updated encryption equipment, will serve to further enhance the security of your personal information stored on the card, as well as provide increased security in those areas where the CAC is used for entry control. If you have any questions concerning the requirements for issuing a CAC contact the MPF customer service section at 846-5431 or by email at 377MSS.DPMPS@kirtland.af.mil.
