Records Management gets cutting edge storage racks Published Dec. 5, 2008 By Jillian Speake 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- In the past couple of years, the Kirtland AFB Electronic Records Management program has been on a steady path to develop and implement a new range of systems and processes to improve the overall Kirtland AFB RM program and provide a variety of tools for RM personnel to learn more about their responsibilities in the RM process. The newest tool to help streamline the RM program is an Electrical Mobile Storage System, which is currently being installed in Building 20140. This system will consolidate and secure all paper records, providing an organized, single-point location to store the base's records. Another initiative started at Kirtland AFB was a SharePoint site which contains all information required for RM personnel to learn and excel in their positions; including needed forms, training links, all required documents (Air Force instructions, Kirtland AFB instructions, training, etc.), a discussion forum, customer surveys and helpful contact numbers. This is a living portal and is still being developed daily. Additionally, the RM office developed automated rosters of all Kirtland RM personnel, initiated weekly Functional Area Records Manager/Record Custodian meetings and implemented a more robust staff assistance visit and tracking program to help RM personnel understand and properly implement this AF-wide program. These new programs have helped Kirtland track ERM status, procedure compliance, best practices and program strengths and weaknesses.
