New golf course manager invites ideas Published Dec. 15, 2009 By Terry Walker 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- The Kirtland AFB's Tijeras Arroyo Golf course has a new manager, Zack Adamson, formerly the manager at the Whiteman AFB, Mo. golf course. Zack moved here about two months ago from Missouri where he had worked as the Whiteman AFB golf course manager for four years. Previously he was the superintendent of that course for 3.5 years. Zack has a bachelor's degree in horticulture with an emphasis on turf management. "Moving here was a good career move," Zack said. "I wanted to get to a bigger base. Also, since I was born and raised in Missouri I thought it was time to see more of the country. It's a new challenge and I was ready for a new challenge. "My main goal is to change the attitude here," Zack said. "I want to make a good golf course even better for Kirtland AFB. Our course conditions are better than they have been in years because we have a great superintendent, Dave Koch. "I want to upgrade the pro shop and get quality goods in the pro shop," he said. "We are remodeling the bathrooms right now and they should be finished by March, hopefully a little sooner. I plan on using the patio for functions, banquets, weddings and squadron parties and I want to update the rest of the clubhouse. "I want to start new things out here," he said. "I want people to think of the golf course for more than just golf." Zack said that he is "working on new ideas for different tournaments this spring, something to get the golfers excited about the new season." Zack is open to suggestions for new programs. "Come talk to me and we'll see what we can do," he said. Anyone with ideas should call Zack at 846-1169.
