Air Force Awards Contract for Kirtland AFB Bulk Fuels Facility Remediation

Kirtland Air Force Base, NM -- The Army Corps of Engineers, Huntsville, Ala., and Air Force officials at Kirtland AFB announced the award of the performance-based contract for the Kirtland AFB bulk fuels facility to Shaw Environmental and Infrastructure, Inc. The $23 million performance-based contract will remediate the fuel plume at the bulk fuel storage facility.

"With the award of this performance-based contract, we will continue our aggressive efforts to ensure full remediation of the fuel plume," said Col. Robert Maness, 377th Air Base Wing commander. "We are committed to continue to be actively engaged with the New Mexico Environment Department for full resolution," he added.

The company will perform work based on task orders they receive from the Air Force through the Corps of Engineers. The period of performance is one year with options for up to five years.

The contract will support the remediation of the fuel plume. Some of the objectives in the contract that must be met by the contractor include the removal of contaminated soils at the site within three months; the stabilization and control of migration of the actual fuel on the water table within three years; and installation of interim measures to contain ethylene dibromide within three years.
