Twitter is a free social networking and microblogging service that has seen incredible growth in the last few years with more than 4 billion posts since inception, and Kirtland is now on board. Recently, Kirtland launched its Twitter account ,Kirtland377ABW, to add a social networking capability to its communication outreach. An additional capability allows communication with subscribers during emergencies. With the enhanced capabilities commonly provided with today's cell phones, emergency tweets (postings) to Kirtland's Twitter site can be sent directly to a mobile phone. To receive Kirtland's tweets, a potential subscriber must first create a Twitter account at www.Twitter.com and then become a "follower" of Kirtland377ABW. After creating a personal account, a new Twitter subscriber can search for Kirtland377ABW and elect to receive tweets as a "follower." As a "follower," the Twitter subscriber will receive Kirtland tweets directly on his or her personal Twitter page. Additionally, by adding a cell phone number to his or her Twitter account and selecting text notification of Kirtland tweets, a subscriber will receive Kirtland377ABW blog texts directly on a cell phone.
