Popular in recent years, television shows such as "American Idol" have entertained millions, highlighting the quest of talented, but previously undiscovered individuals who are given a venue to showcase their abilities.

To those who wear the blue, this concept isn't new. It has been alive and well for more than 57 years in the Air Force.

Since 1953, thousands of talented Airmen have competed annually in base talent contests around the world for the opportunity to be selected for the elite 35 the Air Force's "Tops in Blue" performing ensemble.

Before beginning their annual performance trek across the world the elite 35 must complete an accelerated 45-day training process at Lackland Air Force Base.

This "performance education" prepares them to succeed as world-class entertainers and for the intricate responsibilities of being their own technical staff, responsible more than 80,000 pounds of performance equipment.

Known at the Air Force's "expeditionary performers," this traveling troupe of talented amateur vocalists, musicians, dancers, comedians, magicians and dramatists bring their show to more than 120 locations throughout the United States and 25 foreign countries annually. Highlighting this year's tour were performances at Super Bowl XLV at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

On March 17, Albuquerque will be treated to a one-night performance at the Convention Center's Kiva Auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m.

This year's premier showcase of talented Airmen will delight the audience as they present "We Believe," a celebration of our beliefs in freedom, strength of family, in opportunity to pursue our dreams, in a nation that holds these beliefs as sacred.

The audience will be entertained with beautiful costumes, precision choreography and music from Rhythm & Blues to Country, hits by Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas.

Admission to the performance is free and open to the public.
