A video production team from Hill Air Force Base, Utah, recently visited Kirtland to capture footage for a video that highlights Kirtland and its major mission partners.

A team of four – Airman 1st Class Codi Trimble and Airman 1st Class Desiree Ware, broadcast journalists on the team; Master Sgt Jason Davis, broadcast production superintendent; and Michael McCool, producer – spent two weeks filming at Kirtland to show a side of Kirtland that not many people have the chance to see.

“When people see what other organizations do, other than their own, they can be proud of what they have here at Kirtland,” said Davis. “Most people might not know what the PJs do, but when they see footage of them training, or see (scientists) working in laboratories, they can be proud of the fact they have something like that at Kirtland.”

Davis said a video highlighting Kirtland’s varied missions will give team Kirtland members a greater appreciation of their base.

For Trimble and Ware, the trip was about more than just filming the Kirtland missions. The Airmen have been in the Air Force for less than a year, so this visit was also about improving skills and developing advanced techniques using top-of-the-line video equipment.

“They’ve had some basic introductory courses on what we do, but this is their first full-on TDY production,” Davis said. “Everything is new to them, so every time we do something, we have to slow down and explain it to them.”

Along with opportunities to hone new skills, the long trip to Kirtland provided the Airmen time to practice what they know.

“This TDY is unusual because it’s three weeks long and they have become totally self-aware. I’ll turn around to tell them to do something and they are already standing there doing it. It would normally take three other trips to train troops to this point,” said Davis.

Davis said having new Airmen on the team helps enhance their video projects.

“I am always learning new techniques to keep up with the trends, but when these new Airmen come in, we can use our expertise with a fresh perspective to create a truly great production,” Davis said.

The Hill videographers expect a final video to be made available in mid-June. It will be posted on Kirtland’s Facebook page, YouTube, and the official website at www.kirtland.af.mil.
