A U.S. Air Force C-130J Super Hercules departs after the airfield reopened following Winter Storm Fern at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, Jan. 28, 2026. The 7th Civil Engineer Squadron prioritized opening the airfield during the storm, using refitted and borrowed equipment to clear inches of snow over ice. Their removal efforts accelerated operational readiness timelines despite temperatures remaining below freezing during the days and nights of the removal process.
