AFRL Week at the Labs event

Air Force Research Laboratory New Mexico's 1st Lt. Kyle Ziegler shows Garfield Middle School student Abner Sapiens the Max Power vehicle and how AFRL uses Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in their mission of research and development here March 1. The visit, which included groups from Garfield and Wilson Middle Schools, was part of the Day at the Lab event hosted by AFRL. National laboratories across the US are holding similar events this week as part of a White House initiative to encourage more children to become involved in STEM and to show the exciting and diverse workplace the national laboratories provide. Ziegler, who is the program manager for Space Electrical Technology at AFRL, took students through experiments and demonstrations of scientific phenomena that scientists and engineers encounter in the course of their work at AFRL. Students also saw exhibits and demonstrations in microwave energy, the Cold Atom Lab, MAX POWER, a vehicle using microwaves to safely destroy improvised explosive devices, and the Roll-Out Solar Array.
