Kirtland firefighters deploy to fight largest wildland fire in US
A team of firefighters from Kirtland Air Force Base deployed May 11, 2022, to combat the combined Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon fire -- the largest wildland fire in the United States. Kirtland Fire Department Battalion Chief Terence Eaton, a 26-year veteran of the department, is leading the team’s effort while they live in field conditions for their two-week rotation. Also deployed are Battalion Chief Jefferson Buller, Lt. Alfonso Rankin, and driver/operator Daniel Sanchez.

Airmen from Kirtland’s 58th and 150th Special Operations Wing visited New Mexico State University with three aircraft for a ROTC and JROTC “Warrior Day” at the Las Vegas, N.M.-based university April 1, 2022. KAFB members included flight engineers, maintenance crew, pilots, and flight surgeons. ROTC Commander Lt. Col. Dana Bochte invited cadets and Alamogordo High School JROTC cadets to a Warrior Day featuring 58th SOW aircraft from Kirtland AFB. On April 1, 2022. Community members including NMSU staff, faculty, and students toured the aircraft visiting from Kirtland and got an opportunity to talk with flight engineers, maintenance crew, pilots, and flight surgeons.. 58th SOW and 150th SOW from Kirtland AFB showcased three aircraft at an event for ROTC and JROTC from Kirtland. Community members and cadets interacted with pilots, flight engineers, maintenance crew and flight medical personnel. The aircraft landed in the “horseshoe” at NMSU’s campus.
