Kirtland AFB civic leader gets hands-on experience
Staff Sgt. James Parent, 342nd Training Squadron Operating Location Alpha, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, instructs David Seely, CEO of Kirtland Federal Credit Union and 58th Special Operations Wing honorary commander, on the proper way to operate a 50-caliber machine gun March 9. Gen. Edward A. Rice Jr., commander of Air Education and Training Command, invited 20 civic leaders from 16 different base communities to observe training operations at Lackland AFB and the Camp Bullis training site in San Antonio. The AETC commander’s group visited the 28,000-acre Camp Bullis training site March 8. Wounded warrior returns home. Marine Lance Cpl. Ivan Sears was greeted by more than 400 people at the Albuquerque Sunport when he returned home to New Mexico Feb. 20. Lance Cpl. Sears lost both legs above the knee last Oct. in an improvised explosive device explosion while on patrol in Afghanistan. He has spent the last five months recuperating and rehabilitating at the San Antonio Military Medical Center in Texas. Lance Cpl. Sears will return to the San Antonio Military Medical Center at the conclusion of his visit home. He will continue his rehabilitation and also be fitted for new prosthetic legs.
