The Department of the Air Force directed the standup of the 95th Maintenance Group, the 95th Operations Group and the 95th Operations Support Squadron as part of the 95th Wing. The reorganization is part of a larger Air Force-wide initiative to move away from the A-staff model and adopt a more operationally-focused construct.

An activation and assumption of command ceremony to formally recognize the two groups and squadron was held April 23, 2026, here.

“The activation of the 95th Maintenance and Operations Groups and the 95th Operations Support Squadron ensures the command structure is designed for enduring effectiveness and readiness to support national leadership and combatant commanders worldwide,” said Maj. Gen. Ty Neuman, 8th Air Force and Joint-Global Strike Operations Center commander. “The 95th Wing’s decades-long mission is entering a new era of optimization. This evolution will further deter our adversaries and equip our nation’s leaders with unmatched capabilities.”

95th MXG ensures E-4B reliability

The 595th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and the 595th Strategic Communications Squadron will align under the newly established 95th MXG.

"Ultimately, the stand-up of the 95th MXG is about one thing: ensuring the E-4B Nightwatch and the SACCS network are ready and effective when called upon," said Col. Brian Hassler, 95th MXG commander. "We will provide mission-ready systems and expert technicians ready to support, anytime, anywhere.”

The 95th MXG’s mission is to organize, train and provide resources for Airmen to maintain, generate and sustain constant state strategic deterrence by providing four safe, reliable E-4B aircraft to execute command and control operations globally. The group will be comprised of approximately 390 Airmen.

Additionally, the 95th MXG provides ground support and a 65-room alert billeting facility at an operating location based out of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

95th OG sharpens C2 mission

The 95th Operations Support Squadron, 1st Airborne Command and Control Squadron, 625th Strategic Operations Squadron and the 334th Combat Training Squadron will align under the 95th OG.

The group will now serve as the warfighting heart of the wing, directly responsible for the execution of the 95th Wing’s primary mission – command and control.

Previously, these capabilities were spread across multiple organizations, hindering mission effectiveness,” said Col. Patrick Hook, 95th OG commander. “The alignment of these mission sets under the 95th OG improves each squadron’s organization and streamlines their organize, train and equip responsibilities.”

95th Wing one-step closer to full operational capability

The activation and assumption of command ceremony for our new operations and maintenance groups marks a significant milestone in the establishment of the 95th Wing,” said Col. David Leaumont, 95th Wing commander. “This event recognizes the tremendous hard work of personnel at all levels, from the unit level to the staffs at Air Force Global Strike Command and Headquarters Air Force. It is symbolic of the significant and vital progress we are making, which will have a far-reaching impact for decades to come.”

The 95th Wing provisionally stood up on Oct. 1, 2024, and was formally activated Feb. 28, 2025. Upon its formal activation, the 253rd Command and Control Group and 610th Command and Control Squadron realigned under the 95th Wing for operational and tactical control.

The wing is headquartered at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, and is aligned under Eighth Air Force and AFGSC.
