The base maintenance contract has been awarded to Chenega Integrated Mission Support.

The contract allows for continuing civil engineer services throughout the base. While most people on base are aware of the base maintenance contract through facility and grounds maintenance, the contract also provides Kirtland with engineers and architects, infrastructure maintenance, real property management, energy program management, land use and space planners, emergency readiness staff and equipment, as well as many other critical resources.

CIMS started transitioning workload and staff from the incumbent contractor June 1, with full operational capability by Aug. 1.

"This contract affects every person on this base in one way or another," said Brent Wilson, base civil engineer. "We are looking forward to working with CIMS to continue to provide outstanding mission support, emergency response, and quality of life for Team Kirtland."

CIMS is a partnership between a subsidiary of the Chenega Corporation, an Alaska Native Village Corporation, and EMI Services, a small business that specializes in supporting federal agencies. CIMS also subcontracts various technical functions under the contract to subsidiaries of Honeywell and Chicago Bridge and Iron, formerly the Shaw Group.
