Team Kirtland members are in for a treat next week, as motivational speaker and former Vietnam prisoner of war Lee Ellis will be at the base to share his message.

Ellis is an award-winning author, leadership consultant and expert presenter in the areas of leadership, teambuilding and human performance. He is also a former Air Force fighter pilot who flew 53 combat missions over Vietnam and was a POW for five years in Hanoi and surrounding camps.

"Kirtland is very lucky to have Ellis visit and speak to our Airmen," said Teresa Reinhard, community support coordinator. "What a great opportunity to listen to a former war prisoner and hear lessons on how to stay resilient in the face of extreme adversity."

Ellis, who authored the book "Leading with Honor: Leadership Lessons from the Hanoi Hilton," will be at Kirtland Oct. 19 and 20 to share personal stories about leadership and teamwork from the crucible of his five-year experience as a POW. Sessions will be at 8 and 10 a.m. at the Base Theater.

Reinhard said those in attendance can expect to connect with the leadership lessons that enabled Vietnam POWs to resist, survive and return with honor. She said Ellis will also discuss how to value the importance of courage, character and competence as the three foundations of leadership, and how to remain resilient in difficult times.

The Oct. 19 sessions are reserved for members of the 58th Special Operations Wing.  Those not in the unit wanting to attend that day should contact Maj. Robert Meyersohn at 853-5281. Those wishing to attend one of the Oct. 20 sessions should arrive early to ensure a seat.  For more information, contact Reinhard at 846-6427.
