KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Tech. Sgt. Trevor Cantrell, this week’s Tiger of the Week, understands that effective security starts with prepared Airmen. As a flight sergeant with the 377th Weapons Systems Security Squadron at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, Cantrell leads the Delta Dawgs while ensuring his team is ready to respond when called upon.
Cantrell provides command and control during security responses and oversees the training, management, and supervision of assigned personnel. His leadership helps ensure Airmen are prepared to protect personnel, critical resources, and installation assets across Kirtland.
Cantrell said his role is essential to maintaining readiness across the flight.
“By maintaining accountability, enforcing standards, and leading effective responses, I help keep the unit ready to fight and win whenever called upon,” Cantrell said.
While responding to security incidents is an important part of his job, Cantrell said the most rewarding aspect of being a flight sergeant is developing the Airmen he leads.
“Seeing them grow in confidence, improve their skills, and succeed professionally while contributing to the mission is the most fulfilling part of being a Flight Sergeant,” he said.
Cantrell is from Tampa, Florida, and grew up in a military family and was familiar with the importance of service from an early age. His decision to join the Air Force was also fueled by a challenge from someone who told him he would never make it in the military.
Now in his 11th year of service, Cantrell has turned that challenge into a career centered on leadership, accountability and developing the Airmen who will carry the mission forward.
