As part of Suicide Prevention Month, Kirtland Air Force Base hosted 1 Degree of Separation on Sept. 18, a unique training program that blends humor, personal storytelling and practical tools to spark open conversations about mental health.

The program held three sessions on base, drawing more than 300 participants. Through a mix of comedy and education, the sessions helped Airmen, Guardians, civilians and families recognize the importance of connection, communication and looking out for one another.

Organizers said the strong turnout demonstrates the Kirtland community’s commitment to supporting each other and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health. By using humor to break down barriers, 1 Degree of Separation created a safe environment for participants to learn how even small actions—just one degree of separation—can make a life-saving difference.
