Kirtland Gate Delays: Increased Traffic, Your Patience Appreciated

  • Published

The 377th Security Forces Squadron has observed that wait times at the gates have been longer recently, and Team Kirtland understands that this has caused some frustration and inconvenience. As many of you may have experienced, recent directives requiring a return to in-person work have impacted office space, parking, and infrastructure across the installation. The increased traffic due to this influx is directly contributing to the longer wait times.

When comparing the data from 2024 to 2025, the increase in traffic volume is clear. The monthly average of identification cards scanned has risen significantly. In 2024, the daily average was 12,830 scans, but in 2025, that number jumped to a daily average of 17,227 scans. February alone saw just nearly a 100,000 increase in scans per month compared to 2024 scans.

The increase in daily traffic volume reflects the larger number of personnel returning to work on-site, which has resulted in increased gate congestion.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as our defenders work to manage this growth and ensure everyone’s safety and security. Your cooperation during peak times is greatly appreciated.
