Daus Kirtland AFB Chapel KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- This year, Kirtland's National Prayer Breakfast will be Feb. 15 at 7 a.m. at the Mountain View Club. The guest speaker will be Chap. (Brig. Gen.) Cecil Richardson, deputy chief of the Chaplain Services for the U.S. Air Force. The purpose of the occasion is to bring together the leadership of the United States in recognition of the moral and religious values upon which our nation was founded. Everyone who would like to join together in prayer for the United States is encouraged to attend. Tickets are available through first sergeants or at the chapel office. Cost is $3 for E-1 through E-4 and $5 for all others. Each year, soon after Congress convenes, men and women in leadership positions from various aspects of our national life meet together for discussion and prayer on the occasion of what became known as the Annual National Prayer Breakfast. In 1970, the name was changed to the National Prayer Breakfast to emphasize less the individuals involved, and more the purpose of their gathering. The National Prayer Breakfast normally is attended by the president, the vice president, the cabinet, members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, government officials, military leaders and others from across the United States. Since the inauguration of the breakfast, the idea of women and men in positions of responsibility meeting together privately and without publicity has spread to every state, scores of cities, military units and to parliaments and congresses on every continent.
