ALS Graduation Lunch
The Airman Leadership School will host a graduation lunch ceremony March 23 at 11:30 a.m. for Class 07-4 at the Mountain View Club. Tickets can be purchased from students or by e-mail: lorna.allen@kirtland.af.mil. They are $9 each for club members and $11 each for nonmembers. Tickets will be sold through Wednesday.

Step up to the Plate
The Step Up to the Plate promotion has started and will run through March 31. Members have lunch at the Mountain View Club and receive a scratch card. Scratch to win prizes.

Operating Hours for MVD
Active duty in uniform get head-of-line privileges all day, every day. Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Doors will close at 4 p.m. and staff will stay to accommodate remaining customers. Call 846-8390.

Thrift Shop Closure Dates
The thrift shop will be closed for spring break March 24-April 1, and April 6 for Good Friday. The shop is on the corner of F and Texas Street. Hours are Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The thrift shop is closed on Tuesdays and all federal holidays. Bundles for Babies
Scheduled for Monday from 9:30-11:45 a.m. in the Airman and Family Readiness Center classroom. Bundles for Babies provides information to help parents prepare and adjust to a new baby. Air Force families receive a gift bundle compliments of the Air Force Aid Society. Army, Navy and Marine families receive a layette.

Résumé Workshop
Scheduled for Wednesday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Airman and Family Readiness Center classroom. Learn how an effective resume will open the door to your next career opportunity.

Preseparation Briefing
Briefing covers a wide range of benefits and services available to transitioning military personnel and their families. Members can participate in the monthly group briefing or schedule an individual appointment. The DD Form 2648, Preseparation Counseling Checklist, which is required for final out-processing, will be completed. Spouses are encouraged to attend.

Predeployment Briefings
Available on a walk-in basis at the Airman and Family Readiness Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. or by appointment for special needs. Family members are encouraged to attend and to sign up for the Hearts Apart Program.

Blood Drives
The Armed Services Blood Program will be returning to the Rio Grande Conference Center on May 14 and 15. So the opportunity to directly support our military troops with the gift of life will be on your doorstep.

Be aware that you can only donate blood every eight weeks. This means that any blood or blood products donated after March 18 will disqualify you from donating to the upcoming ASBP drive.

Air Force Reserve

Child Care Program
The family child care program is seeking new providers. Homes are needed to provide care for special needs, swing shifts, evening shifts and nontraditional hours. The next orientation for new providers will be March 26- 28. For information call 846-1802.

The youth center needs instructors for Spanish and computer classes. Volunteers needed for several programs. Stop by or call 853-5437.

Children/Parents

Return Home Care Program
Receive 16 hours of free child care per child for children ages 12 and under, when returning home after 30 days or more in direct support of Operation Enduring Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism; must use within 30 days of return. Call 846-1802.

Chess Tournament Soon
The youth center is recruiting for certified United States Chess Federation tournament directors and interested players for the upcoming KAFB Base Level Chess Tournament on March 24 at 9 a.m. The player categories are ages 6-8, ages 9-12, ages 13-18, active duty Air Force members, DOD civilians, spouses and other eligible family members and retirees. Contact the youth center at 846-1829 for information on being the USCF tournament director or a player.

2007 Youth of Year
Youth ages 14-18 can pick up a Youth of the Year package and compete to be recognized as the best on the base in areas of leadership, service, character, academics and future goals. Call 853-5437.

Congressional Award
This is a noncompetitive program open to all 14-23 year olds. The award recognizes individuals for achieving goals in public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration. Contact youth programs at 853-5437.

Teen Aviation Camp
Teens who would like to explore the U.S. Air Force Academy as a possible choice for college can spend a week at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. Packages must be returned to the youth center no later than March 23. Stop by the youth center to pick up an application package.

Youth Employment Skills
The YES Program is a way for high school students to earn money for college and gain career experience, while volunteering. Contact the youth center at 846-1829.

Private Pilot Ground School
The Kirtland Flight Center offers training for private pilot, instrument/commercial, certified flight instructor, multiengine and airline transport pilot's license. Aircraft check-out training is provided. Full-time instructors and numerous active-duty part-time instructors are on staff. A fleet of nine aircraft with new avionics, interiors and exteriors is available. Private pilot training course approximate cost is $5-6,000. Cost of training could be more than $6,000 and is dependent on student pilot skill and aptitude.
