Author, speaker and moving expert, Susan Miller, will be speaking to the women of Kirtland AFB, April 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. and April 25 from 9:30-11:30 a.m., in the chapel annex.

All women are welcome to attend this free event. A brunch will be included on April 25 and childcare will be provided with preregistration.

Call 266-3879 to register.

Miller will be encouraging women to "survive and thrive" as they adjust to a move. For many of the women, the move to New Mexico was due to a military transfer for their husbands who may have then been deployed abroad. These women are often coping alone with the many challenges of their relocation, including fear and loneliness.

According to the Military Assistance Program sponsored by the Department of Defense, "Every year, around one third of all military members make a permanent change of station move."

The military spouse has a tremendous impact on the family's success in adjusting to a move. In fact, recent studies have revealed that the spouse's adjustment to a move is the most important factor in determining the successful adjustment of the entire family. In addition, children are more likely to adjust well to multiple moves if Mom is adjusting well.
