Active duty, Reserve and National Guard Airmen may apply to Air Force Academy Published Sept. 4, 2007 KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- 2nd Lt. Michelle Dieringer will speak to Airmen interested in applying to the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo., at the Education Center here Sept. 11 at 2:30 p.m. Lieutenant Dieringer will also be available at the job fair on the same day at the Mountain View Club from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Lieutenant Dieringer graduated from the Air Force Academy in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. She serves as an admissions adviser in the Diversity Recruiting Office at the academy for the Midwest and Southwest regions of the United States. This recruiting program is an ongoing effort to give Airmen the opportunity to excel by offering appointments to the academy. The academy has 85 direct-entry slots for active duty and 85 direct-entry slots for Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard, as well as 50 slots for active-duty Airmen to enter the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School. An Airman does not need to seek a presidential, vice presidential or congressional nomination since the Airman's commander is the nominating authority. It is possible to receive a full scholarship including room and board. The prospective student must be unmarried with no dependents and younger than 23 years old as of July 1 the year entering the academy and younger than 22 for the preparatory school. The academy preparatory school is a 10-month school which provides intensive academic preparation to make applicants better qualified to enter the academy. Academy Direct Entry Minimums: SAT: Verbal 580, Math 560 ACT: English 24, Reading 24, Math 25, Science Reasoning 25 Preparatory School Minimums: Top 40 percent of high school class or about a 2.70 GPA.
