23rd Annual Tribute to Women in the Military Published Jan. 10, 2008 By Senior Master Sgt. Cheryl Moore Defense Threat Reduction Agency KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- The 23rd anniversary of the Tribute to Women in the Military will be held March 7 at the Mountain View Club here. The tribute honors all military women, whether they are active duty, Reserve and National Guard members, retirees or veterans. The theme of this year's tribute is "Breaking Boundaries - Ordinary Women Doing Amazing Things." The 2008 event will focus on the many firsts that military women have achieved. The tribute will begin at 8:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies to include music from the Southwest Edition Quartet followed by a Military Trivia Contest. The luncheon will commence at 11:45 a.m. The keynote speaker will be retired Air Force Col. Mary Parker, former 58th Special Operations Wing Maintenance Squadron commander here. During the luncheon, two special awards will be presented to women who have contributed to the improvement of the community, state and the military. The day's events include two seminars: "You've Left the Military, So Now What? Employment Opportunities for Veterans," will be presented by Sharon Mitchell, U.S. Department of Labor, state director of Veteran's Employment and Training Service. Anne K. Zetar, registered pharmacist, will talk about "Getting the Most out of Your Pharmacy Experience." There will also be numerous exhibits and door prizes. This nonprofit, multiservice activity is chaired by volunteers and has been a sell-out event that draws attendees ranging from high school students to retirees and World War II veterans. This year's event is co-sponsored by the Kirtland AFB Top III. Everyone is invited. Registration is required. Early bird registration is $17 and due by Jan. 19. Regular registration is $24, active duty enlisted E-1 through E-4 is $10, and lunch-only reservations are $15 due by Feb. 19.
