Chapel hosts non-religious pre-deployment retreat Published June 10, 2008 By Chaplain (Capt.) Daniel Morey Chapel KIRTLAND AFB, New Mexico -- The Kirtland AFB Chapel is hosting a non-religious retreat for personnel who are preparing to deploy. The retreat will be July 18-20 at the Glorieta Retreat Center in Glorieta, N.M. There will be a small donation of $10 for singles and $20 for couples to register for the retreat with no additional charges. The event will include some brief training sessions, recreation for all ages, childcare and many great memories. The purpose of the retreat is four-fold. First, it is intended to provide a fun and relaxing atmosphere in which families and singles will be able to create fun memories. This is intended to help cope with the entire deployment process. Prior to deployment it will help relieve stress. During deployment the lessons and experiences will help sustain relationships. After deployment it will help restore normal relationships. The second purpose is to connect spouses, families and singles of deploying personnel with each other, squadron support systems and base agencies. There will be the opportunity for spouses to get together and discuss anticipated support issues during the retreat. There will also be the opportunity for single personnel to connect with others who have experiences in their unique challenges during deployment. The third purpose of the event is to educate personnel on how to strengthen, sustain and find ultimate success in all their important relationships. The program will use a "Relational C3" concept, which is Command, Control, Communicate. The training sessions will be interactive and brief. The 90-minute sessions will be held each day of the retreat. The final purpose is to organize Kirtland AFB resources into one comprehensive care system. There will be opportunities for personnel to have their concerns addressed by base representatives. Individuals interested in participating in the retreat are asked to contact their First Sergeant to obtain a registration form. The chapel is also looking for volunteers to help conduct the retreat. Please contact Chaplain (Capt.) Dan Morey or Master Sgt. Quincy Harper at 846-5691.
