Air Force VPP alive and well Published Dec. 5, 2008 By Terry J. Beggs 377th Air Base Wing Safety Office KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- Reports that the Air Force Voluntary Protection Program has died on the vine are highly exaggerated. In fact, the recent release of the Air Force Concept of Operations and Implementation Plan for The AF-VPP signed by Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz, demonstrates the Air Force commitment to executing and sustaining VPP throughout all Air Force installations. We are moving forward with implementation at Kirtland AFB through a phased approach with 377th Air Base Wing units leading the initial effort. Wing Safety is the VPP focal point for Kirtland AFB. Since our formal assessment visit by Air Force Materiel Command and VPP contractor team in August 2007, we have published our 377th ABW VPP execution plan and established an execution team. The team is composed of members appointed by 377th Mission Support and Medical Group commanders, and our AFGE Local 2263. In the months ahead the execution team will be working feverishly to close action items identified in the gap analysis conducted during the August 2007 assessment, and toward our ultimate goal of achieving VPP Gold Star status by 2010. Please visit our Kirtland Safety Community of Practice site via the Air Force Portal to learn more about The AF-VPP program, and direct any questions to our lead VPP agent in the 377th ABW Safety office, William Kornafel, 846-4227.
