About 30 Airmen from the 377th Security Forces Squadron competed in the 2010 National Rifle Association's National Police Shooting Championships from Sept. 19-23 at Shooting Range Park in Albuquerque.

The 48th annual NPSC featured more than 340 law enforcement officers from the United States, Australia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Russia and Venezuela.

Each year, more than 1,000 U.S.-based police officers compete in local, state and regional matches, culminating in the national championships, in which competitors must fire their weapons accurately under specified conditions and time limits.

Events include multiple individual, team and tactical matches, using stock, distinguished, off-duty and open class semi-automatic pistols and revolvers, as well as law enforcement shotguns.

In the NPSC New Mexico Challenge, conducted Sept. 18, Capt. Benjamin Washburn finished first overall among military shooters, leading a 19-member team from the 377th SFS firing their duty handguns.

In an overall field of 80 competitors, Airman 1st Class Ebony Jenkins achieved second place in the women's category; Tech. Sgt. Jeffrey Drane took top honors in the "sergeant" competition, besting Master Sgt. Cody Green, who finished second; 2nd Lt. Joseph Farinash won the "lieutenant" class; and Captain Washburn captured first at the "commander" level.
