Officials from the state of New Mexico, Bernalillo County and the city of Albuquerque gathered April 5 at Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate's lobby in Building 472 to watch cryogenic experiments and displays and talk to experts about their programs at AFRL's State Day.

The officials were invited to tour three labs in both AFRLs directorates, Space Vehicles and Directed Energy.

"AFRL has a tremendous impact on New Mexicans and the state economy," said Cynthia Kaiser, chief engineer for AFRL's Directed Energy Directorate. "These two labs employ 1,600 professionals and have a combined budget of $709 million, with most of the funds placed on contracts."

State Day was hosted by the directorate's honorary commanders, Hilary Noskin, with Directed Energy and Marla Wood, with Space Vehicles.

Demonstrations included a laser firing, a non-lethal, millimeter wave firing, plug and play satellite, handheld laser dazzler, and the airborne laser beam relay mirror. Scientists were there to explain what they are doing to help our military and answer questions.
