Sports Day event brings mission partners together Published April 29, 2011 By Brian Brackens 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Kirtland Air Force Base, NM -- The 377th Air Base Wing will host a basewide Sports Day from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 26. It will be a day of softball, basketball, volleyball, flag football, ultimate frisbee, soccer, dodgeball, racquetball, a 10K run, as well as a free barbecue for all participants at the conclusion of the event. One of the organizers of Sports Day, 1st Lt. Paul Elsbernd, said he wanted it to be an opportunity for mission partners around base to come together. "Previous Sports Days have been unit-or wing-specific," he said. "What I want this to be is an opportunity for all of the units that work on Kirtland Air Force Base but have different missions to come together and celebrate our common military service through the friendly competition of sports." Trophies will be awarded to the winning teams and a trophy will also be given to the unit that wins the most events. "This is a great opportunity to work in a cooperative and team-building environment outside of the office," said Lieutenant Elsbernd. "It's a chance to get outside, get some exercise and have a lot of fun, in a beautiful time of the year here in Albuquerque." For active-duty military, Sports Day is an alternate duty location. The deadline to sign up is May 12. For more information and to sign up, contact 2nd Lt. Amberly Prill at amberly.prill@kirtland.af.mil or 846-7671.
