This year marks the 10th Anniversary of Sept. 11, a day that many of us remember and changed many American lives.

The City of Albuquerque, Blue Star Mothers and USA Cares will sponsor the Tunnel to Towers Run Sunday, Sept. 11.

The run begins at 8 a.m. Tunnel to Towers pays homage to Stephen Siller, a Brooklyn firefighter. Siller, who was off-duty when he heard the news about the airplane crash at the World Trade Center, rushed to the scene to help. Since the Brooklyn Tunnel was already closed to traffic, Siller took his sixty pounds of gear and ran through the tunnel to meet up with his squad. He, and 10 other members of his squad, were killed trying to save others.

This is the first year the 5K Tunnel to Towers Run will be held in Albuquerque. To register for the run, visit www.tunneltotowersrun.org/albuquerque.aspx.

Following the run, the City of Albuquerque and Kirtland Air Force Base are sponsoring a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Harry Kinney Civic Plaza in downtown Albuquerque.

The ceremony will pay tribute to the fallen New York fire department and police department members who sacrificed their lives saving others.
