Red Ribbon Week starts Published Oct. 21, 2011 By Stephen Adams Drug Demand Reduction Program manager Kirtland Air Force Base -- The Air Force continues to have a no-tolerance policy on the misuse of substances. The week of Oct. 23-31 is Red Ribbon Week, dedicated to education and prevention activities that promote healthy decisions and lifestyle changes related to substances. Red Ribbon Week honors the memory of Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique S. Camarena, who was murdered by drug traffickers in 1985 while working in Mexico. You can help Drug Demand Reduction/Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment spread the word about continued deterrence from illicit drug use and the negative effects of substance misuse on the Air Force mission, career, family and personal life. This year's theme is: "It's Up to Me to Be Drug Free" Misuse of substances negatively affects health, careers and family. It is important that all civilian employees and military member s understand the ramifications of poor decision making when it comes to the choice of abusing substances, both legal and illegal. Leaders, please continue to convey the importance of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle to your entire Airman and civilian population.
