McCorkle named to CSAF program Published Dec. 2, 2011 By Marie Vanover 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- Sherman McCorkle has been selected for the Air Force Chief of Staff's civic leader program. McCorkle, who already serves on the Air Force Materiel Commander's Community Liaison Program and has been recognized as a Kirtland AFB Wingman, will join approximately 25 civic leaders from across the country. The CSAF's civic leader program is an Air Staff-level program comprised of respected community leaders selected by officials from Air Force major commands, the National Guard Bureau and Headquarters Air Force. The civic leaders provide ideas and feedback to advise the Secretary of the Air Force, the Air Force chief of staff and Air Force senior leaders about how missions can best be accomplished in their respective areas and about public attitudes toward the Air Force and Air Force activities in their areas. McCorkle, a fifth-generation New Mexican, is chairman and chief executive officer of the Sandia Science and Technology Park Development Corporation and most recently, was the president and CEO of Technology Ventures Corp. In 1996, McCorkle founded the Kirtland Partnership Committee, a private organization whose mission is to support, preserve and grow Kirtland AFB, and has served the committee as the board chair twice and is currently the vice chair. He has received many awards and honors to include: the 2010 International Economic Development Council Award for Partnership; the 2008 Outstanding Community Leadership Award from Association of University Research Parks; the 2007 Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Corporate Citizenship Award; College of Santa Fe, Honoris Causa, Doctor of Humane Letters; the New Mexico Distinguished Public Service Lifetime Achievement Award; Rupert Hernandez Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill; and the Dr. Martin Luther King Freedom Award from the Albuquerque Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Col. McCorkle's current public service includes the National Trustee-National Jewish Medical Research Center; vice chair of the Board and director of the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce; Director, New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry; vice chair of the Board and director, Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce; immediate past chair, Albuquerque EconomicDevelopment; Board of Directors, Arrowhead Innovation Center, New Mexico State University: Business Industry Advisory Council, University of New Mexico; and past service on the National Board of the United Way of America and the United Way of Central New Mexico Board.
