Airmen looking for Team Kirtland events can now use an application on their smartphone.

The Air Force recently launched the app "My Military Communities," or MyMC2, which lists upcoming base events and services.

"Airmen are technology-based communicators today," said Chief Master Sgt. John Dougherty, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center and 377th Air Base Wing command chief. "We need to provide a venue to Airmen, regardless of age, which gets the word out about what's happening on Kirtland. This app does that by putting information right into their hands."

MyMC2 pulls information from an organization's Facebook event calendar page and displays the events on a smartphone's screen. For more information, Airmen can touch a particular event and a pop-up window appears with details about it.

"The app allows us to link information to process owners and provide customers the phone number and Facebook page for businesses and military organizations on base," said the chief. "For this app to be truly successful, we need other Team Kirtland units with Facebook pages to contact us, so they can get their events added to our 'MyMC2' network."

Team Kirtland units with Facebook pages, can call the Public Affairs office at 846-5991 to have their pages added to the installation's MyMC2 network.

"Every unit that has information to share needs to jump on the MyMC2 train," said the chief. "Some of our Airmen are not given the opportunity to check email on a daily basis. There are security forces Airmen on the flightline who don't even have a PC to call their own. However, nearly everyone has a smartphone. MyMC2 is a great way to communicate happenings whether its sports physicals available at the 377th Medical Group or a Hearts Apart event offered by the 377th Force Support Squadron. This comes at no extra costs to the air force or to users."

MyMC2 is available for free through the Play Store on Android devices and Apple's App Store on iOS. Once downloaded, users can open the app and select Kirtland AFB as their default community.
