The Air Force Materiel Command command chief visited Kirtland Air Force Base from Oct. 17 to 20.

Chief Master Sgt. Michael Warner visited various sections at Kirtland AFB and spoke with Airmen about the many issues they face.

"My priorities are pretty simple as a command chief," said Warner. "They are to work the command's and the Air Force's priorities, and as a team, ensure we are getting our critical missions complete."

The command's recent reorganization changed AFMC from 12 centers to five, to become more efficient in four major mission sets, said Warner. They are research and development; test; sustainment; and lifecycle management.

"I look at how the enlisted force contributes to getting those mission sets done," said Warner. "My big focus is on how we recruit, train and retain our superstar performers, while taking care of our families."

Warner also said a big part of his job is to make sure Airmen know what the commander's policies are.

"I find out from Airmen what headquarters can do to make it easier for them to complete the mission," said Warner. "I hope to be able to assist in removing obstacles, to ensure they are getting the right training, and that we are pushing Airmen to become more educated, capable and ready."

Force development is another important aspect of the command chief's job, said Warner.

"One of my priorities is NCO leadership at the front line," said Warner. "I firmly believe the key to our success is at our staff and technical sergeant level. They're the mission experts, and they train and take care of our brand new Airmen. I look at how we are doing that and make sure they are as good as they need to be to accomplish the mission."

The chief had some advice for Airmen.

"Try to be the best at what you do every day," said Warner. "Be positive, upbeat and like what you are doing. The great thing about attitude is that it is decided by one person -- you. You've got to live by the three P's; be proud, be positive and be professional. You also have to take advantage of the opportunities presented to you. If you do those things, you will be successful."

The chief took AFMC's top enlisted position in June.

"I'm excited about being a brand new major command command chief," said Warner. "It's a great opportunity to be part of a command that I think the Air Force couldn't be without. Having not served in this command before, I'm absolutely amazed at what we do. I am honored to represent the Airmen of AFMC. I am also thoroughly impressed by the amazing team here at Kirtland."
