Kirtland aims to jumpstart the summer activities and bring family fun to the base with its Summer Bash.

The annual event will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 28 at Hardin Field.

"It's open to all base users," said Joni VanMeir, event planner. "If you're active-duty, civilian or retired, we want you to bring your family and friends and come on out."

This year's event will include vendors, a live band, static displays and activity areas.

There will be information booths on recreation, health care and animal welfare, and other booths will sell food and crafts. Activities will include volleyball, bag toss, a trike race, obstacles and a bouncy house, and live entertainment will be provided by the Bill Babnick and Mag 44 country band.

Static displays will accompany the booths on the field. Scheduled displays include a CV-22 Osprey, HH-60 Pave Hawk and an UH-1 Huey.

Security forces, the fire department and the Museum of Military History will also have vehicles on display.

"The static displays give people the chance to have an up close look at aircrafts and other vehicles," VanMeir said. "When else would you be able to climb on a tank or an assault vehicle?"

Animal Rescue will be at Summer Bash and have on-the-spot pet adoptions, which will be located on the Seventh Street side of Hardin Field.

Parking for Summer Bash will be available at Hardin Field and at the Base Chapel.
