The 377th Comptroller Squadron welcomed U.S. Air Force Lt. Col Shay Edwards as their new commander at a change of command ceremony July 31, 2019, here.

The ceremony was presided over by 377th Air Base Wing Commander Col. David Miller.

“[Col. Edwards], I believe you are ideally prepared to help the Fighting Tigers and all of Team Kirtland, and we are blessed to have you join our team,” said Miller. “You will have specific challenges at this wing that your peers at other wings will not be able to share. Those challenges are going to make you better prepared for the future.”

Edwards previously served as the U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Africa Budget and Operations Branch Chief.

“I truly look forward to this opportunity and I’m very excited to be here,” said Edwards. “For me there is no more rewarding and challenging job than command. I am so excited to be able to do it a second time.”

She took over command of the squadron from Lt. Col. William Beauter, who is scheduled to assume command of Reserve Officer Training Corps Det. 510.

“Lt. Col. Edwards is bringing new energy, a great deal of budget expertise and more command experience than I had coming into this job three years ago,” said Beauter. “I’m envious, you’re inheriting an amazing squadron and I’m looking forward to hearing about the squadron’s achievements and your success over the next couple years.”

The Air Force change of command ceremony is a military tradition that represents a formal transfer of authority and responsibility for a unit from one commanding officer to another.
