The FamCamp, officially our Family Camp Ground, on the east side of Kirtland is beginning what will be an extensive renovation. The effort typifies the quality of life improvements underway at Kirtland. Like our revamped Outdoor Recreation Center, Base Theater, Fitness Centers and Mountain View Club, the FamCamp will improve a key amenity for Team Kirtland and our visitors.

Like our other facility and activity upgrades within the Force Support realm, we have access to non-appropriated funds to implement strategies to make each of these services the best they can be for our Team Kirtland family and visitors.

In the near term, FamCamp users will see some sprucing up, and improved access. Our 377th Force Support Squadron team has focused on cleaning up the grounds, removing weed and goat-head producing Puncture Vine plants. Each of the sewer access points are being replaced with updated and easier to use caps across the 88 full-service spaces, and utility post heat tape/insulation to protect the water access at each space is being replaced. New picnic tables have also been added to the spaces.

In addition, FamCamp visitors will notice an improved laundry, bathroom and shower facility. Soon to follow in the coming months will be possibly the most significant short-term improvement:  improved Wi-Fi. It’s 2018, and even though most of our visitors are enjoying the RV lifestyle, they also come with three or four devices that need connectivity. We recognize this and are working to improve the bandwidth.

To make visits more convenient for travelers, people can now stay up to 30 days consecutively.  Stays will continue to be capped at 180 days within any 12-month period.

Over the long term, plans are in the works for a community center, improved landscaping, a new playground, improved dog park, solar lighting for walkways, paved overflow areas, wider paved RV spaces and curbed entrances to those spaces.

These are all changes which will make our FamCamp —a unique benefit our installation offers—more accessible and more enjoyable for our users. Ultimately, yet another quality of life improvement.
