The Kirtland AFB Tax Center is now open providing free tax-filing services to eligible customers.

The Tax Center is operated entirely by volunteers, and has partnered again with the Internal Revenue Service’s VITA program.  The center is located ub the Consolidated Support Building and will be open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  It is by appointment and on walk-in basis, based on availability.

Because resources are limited, the Tax Center will prepare tax returns for E-7s and below, O-3s and below, and their dependents.  These include active duty, Reserve, and National Guard members. Volunteers will also prepare returns for retirees with gross income of $85,000 and below.

What to bring to your appointment:
-- Proof of identification
-- Social Security Cards for every dependent/ITIN for foreign status
-- Birth dates for you and every dependent
-- A copy of your federal and state returns for the last two years
-- Income statements: W-2, W-2G, 1099s
-- Direct Deposit information (bring checkbook)
-- Total paid for daycare provider and provider’s tax identifying number (TIN)
-- Education documents if you are claiming education credits

To make an appointment, call 505-853-1700.
