The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center recently raised more than 500 percent of its goal for the Air Force Assistance Fund at its headquarters location.

At Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, the center raised almost $10,600 for the local Air Force Assistance Fund campaign. With less than 2.5 percent of the base’s active-duty population, the center was the highest contributing unit at Kirtland AFB, besting its goal of $2,060 by more than 500 percent and contributing over 18 percent of the base’s total.

The AFAF campaign is an annual effort to raise funds benefiting its affiliated charities, the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation, the Air Force Enlisted Village, and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation. These organizations provide various forms of support for active duty and retiree members, as well as for their families.

The center’s AFAF team leaders, Capt. Michael Gibb, Capt. Olivia Borman, 1st Lt. Taylor Hubbard and Senior Airman Francis Manuel, reached the over-the-top milestone by coordinating six fund-raisers and soliciting donations from the center’s active-duty and civilian members.

“The fundraisers were a great opportunity to get the word out and spread awareness about the worthiness of the Air Force Assistance Fund,” Gibb said.

The organizations that benefit from AFAF do not receive support from tax dollars and more than 95 percent of contributed funds go directly to the AFAF mission of helping Air Force families.

“I personally benefited from the resources provided by the Air Force Aid Society 16 years ago when I was a young Airman Basic under duress during a family emergency. The fund proved invaluable to me then, and still is for many fellow Airmen today,” Gibb said.

“Our center has always exceeded its fund-raising goal at Kirtland, but this year we reached a new high,” said Maj. Gen. Scott Jansson, AFNWC commander and program executive officer for Strategic Systems. “I am in awe of all of those who donated so generously and I am very proud of our AFAF campaign leaders this year. The record-breaking total speaks for itself. This organization is quite simply amazing.”
