Lt. Gen. Mark Ediger, Surgeon General of the Air Force, visited the 377 Medical Group at Kirtland Air Force Base March 2.

Ediger was here to learn more about the diverse Team Kirtland mission sets and how Kirtland medics support base operations.

He spent the day touring the base’s medical units to gain a better understanding of how they support the mission and what advancements have been made to increase their proficiency.

“The tour gave us the chance to showcase how we support the Global Strike mission,” said 1st Lt. Hannah Williams, 377 Medical Support Squadron medical logistics flight commander. “We wanted to show aspects of the operations that we support, ensure the security of our off-base installation, and also provide updates to our on-going renovation process.”

Ediger also took time during his visit to coin several members of the MDG for being outstanding professionals in their career fields.

During an all-call, medical personnel were given the opportunity to address the general on challenges their units may face. Ediger answered questions and provided insight into the progression of the medical career field.

“We want to know about the challenges and successes of the mission,” Ediger said. “This helps us at headquarters to know what to focus on that’ll help the Kirtland medics be fully successful at supporting such a big mission.”

The visit concluded with the general asking the Airmen to remember how critical their job is, not only to the huge community, but to the Air Force and our nation’s defense.
