Chief Induction
The Kirtland Air Force Base Chiefs Group inducted five new members Jan. 25 at the Mountain View Club. Inductees were, from left to right, Chief Master Sergeant Robert Dinsmore, 512th Rescue Squadron; Chief Master Sergeant-select Kenneth Zera, 58th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron; Chief Master Sergeant Peter Padilla, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center; Chief Master Sergeant-select Curtis Green, 377th Force Support Squadron; and Chief Master Sergeant-select Benjamin Hedden, 58th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. Symbolizing that as chiefs, they are servants to Airmen, the five new inductees perform their first ceremonial service together by using a saber to cut the cake that will be served to guests.

Mayor tours fuel site
Col. John Kubinec, installation commander at Kirtland AFB, right, conducted a tour for Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry of the newly upgraded fuel plume remediation equipment Jan. 23 at the base’s bulk fuel facility site. The new system, called a “soil vapor extraction catalytic oxidizer,” will allow for more efficient and effective remediation. The technology has been used successfully at other fuel spill sites across the nation, including New Mexico.
