Kirtland Exercise Published Feb. 23, 2007 KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, NEW MEXICO -- The base is conducting a security exercise from Feb. 26 until March 17 in support of a Department of Defense program that reviews and verifies policy for the safety and security of U.S. military resources. The purpose of the exercise is to allow personnel to share and develop security procedures to ensure the safety and security of U.S. military resources. About 200 personnel will participate in this exercise. Exercises, such as this one, are conducted in realistic environments under realistic circumstances to ensure our forces maintain the highest levels of proficiency and readiness. Local residents may see and hear exercise activity, which will include the use of blank ammunition, noise producing simulators, and smoke. Live ammunition won't be used. Exercise operations will not inconvenience local residents. An environmental assessment has determined that there will be no significant environmental effects
