Colonel Col. Jeffrey Welborn

Colonel Jeffrey H. Welborn is the Deputy Commander, Air Force Safety Center, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. The center develops, implements, executes and evaluates all Air Force aviation, occupational, weapons, space and nuclear surety programs to preserve combat capability and save lives. Additional missions are to develop strategic guidance to promote safety awareness, provide technical support and oversight for mishap investigations, evaluate safety programs to ensure policy implementation, direct the Air Force Risk Management program and provide accredited education to safety professionals across the Department of Defense.


Prior to his current assignment he was the Commander, 14th Mission Support Group, Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi. In this capacity he assisted and provided military advice to the Wing Commander on the development and implementation of goals, plans, policies and procedures to accomplish all wing support activities. As commander, he provided essential services with a 750-person workforce and $38 million budget, operated and maintained facilities and infrastructure for a 6,013-acre pilot training base and provided law enforcement, force protection, logistics, fuel, fire protection, communications, contracting, civil engineer, education, recreation, and personnel management for over 10,000 people. He is a Joint Qualified Officer.


Colonel Welborn graduated from the University of Georgia and was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1997. He is a Master Navigator with experience in multiple aircraft to include the C-141B, AC-130H, and the T-43A.
